Tim, an Associate Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology at BYU, leverages the power of epigenetics as a clinically actionable diagnostics tool. His work extends to include common and severe diseases, male fertility, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and forensics. In his lab, Tim discovers potential applications and identifies novel bench top and bioinformatic approaches to accomplish his aims.
Jonathon, an Associate Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology at BYU, develops innovative genomic and bioinformatic methods for gene expression analysis and variant detection. He studies the molecular genetics of congenital heart defects in his lab. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a BYU Early-Career Teaching Award recipient, having received his MS in Molecular Biology from the University of Colorado Health Science Center and a PhD in Genetics and Developmental Biology from Columbia University.
WBL’s clinical services are overseen by a High Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD) and a Director of Compliance with a combined 40+ years of experience in CLIA and CAP accredited laboratory sciences. Our experienced clinical laboratory professionals ensure regulatory compliance of WBL’s operations and developing tests.
Ben is a seasoned healthcare director with over 25 years of experience in CLIA and CAP accredited laboratory sciences and clinical infertility treatment. He has extensive expertise as an andrologist, embryologist, and in optimizing workflows to coordinate clinical care. Ben’s contributions to numerous research studies and clinical trials have resulted in over 40 peer-reviewed articles, scientific abstracts, presentations at meeting symposia, and book chapters that emphasize the importance of precision and accuracy in laboratory developed tests.
Ki Aston, an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah and in Austin, Texas, completed his PhD in somatic cell nuclear transfer and nuclear reprogramming at Utah State University in 2007. He is board certified as a High Complexity Lab Director and serves as director of reproductive labs at both universities.

Chad leads the company with a deep commitment to advancing genomic research through innovative sequencing technologies. Chad drives the strategic vision of the company, fostering growth and delivering cutting-edge solutions for researchers and clinical providers. In his free time, he enjoys cheering on BYU’s sports teams and spending time with his two little ones.
Steve brings over 15 years of expertise in genomics and biotechnology operations, with notable experience as VP of Lab Operations at Flagship Biosciences and Director of Global Genomics Lab Operations and Business Development at Q² Solutions. His extensive background in molecular diagnostics and lab management positions him to successfully lead WBL's transition from RUO to clinical operations. When he's not driving innovation in the lab, Steve enjoys attending live concerts, where he finds inspiration in the energy of the crowd and the music.
As CFO of Renew Biotechnologies, Adam leverages his deep expertise in accounting and finance—gained from significant startup roles, as well as roles at Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers—to drive financial strategy and operational efficiency, consistently delivering exceptional financial stewardship and innovation in financial processes.
As Director of Business Development at Wasatch BioLabs, Alan leverages 28 years of business development and technology adoption strategy. He is responsible for forging commercial partnerships and establishing a robust ecosystem of biotechnology partners. His sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) strategies are well-tested, both in the boardroom and at home, where he and his wife have successfully raised 8 kids!
Dean Lilley is the Director of Product and Marketing at Wasatch BioLabs, where he brings the same energy and focus he’s honed from years of outdoor adventures and mountain sports. Whether he’s planning a bike ride or launching a new product, Dean knows the value of thinking ahead, sweating the small stuff, and executing with precision. With over a decade of experience in the biotech industry, Ryan brings a wide breadth of expertise to the WBL team - from genetic analysis, to assay development, and building computational pipelines and infrastructure. His most recent focus has been developing cutting-edge epigenetic-based assays, with applications ranging from liquid biopsies to male fertility diagnostics. His deep knowledge and skills have been instrumental in advancing the use of epigenetics in diverse clinical and research settings, driving new insights and breakthroughs in health and disease.
Renzo Caina, Senior Software Developer at Wasatch BioLabs, brings a wealth of technical expertise in building advanced systems that streamline operations, optimize inventory control, and manage vast amounts of scientific data. His innovative approach ensures seamless integration of software solutions across the lab’s workflows. Outside of his professional role, Renzo is an avid sports enthusiast, staying energized through his love of ultimate frisbee and pickleball, where his strategic thinking and agility shine on the field.
